In response to Forrest Wickman's blog post: Blog post vs. blog: This blog post is not a "blog."
Wickman's opinion about why people confuse blog with blog post are very clear. I had never thought of this mistake as a "linguistic boner" but after reading what Wickman has to say, I might as well agree with his term. In addition, I also didn't pay much attention when using the terms blog and blog post. I know the difference between the two but I didn't know using the wrong one in a sentence could change its whole meaning. After reading some of the examples Wickman includes in his blog post (this is a blog post; not a blog) I see why he says that this mistake "makes you sound stupid". Saying blog when you really mean blog post would be like saying closet when you really mean shoe; two completely different things.
